About Jan C. Johnson

Welcome! If you like food, reading, laughing over life's little disasters, and maybe thinking about the bigger things of life, you have come to the right place. Besides blogging, I write humorous fiction, though real life tends to leave fictional humor in the shade. But I'm not a total goofball. No, really. I've also written a most riveting memoir--not mine, which would be boring, but rather the life story of an obscure pastor in Liberia, West Africa. His hair-raising memories of the Liberian Civil War years make for some suspenseful reading! Discover more under the "My Books" tab. I live in North Texas with my husband, Brent. We enjoy bicycling, Mexican food, and traveling to visit our kids and grandkids.

Getting There. It is so NOT Half the Fun.

I was sure I had thought of everything. Packing for a weekend retreat, in October, in Austin, Texas, in a downtown hotel but with outdoor activities, is an adventure in uncertainty. Rain or sun? Cool weather, scorching hot, or both? … Continue reading

With Those Who Weep

I sat at the table, pen in hand, my mind as blank as the strip of yellow paper in front of me. A minute or more ticked by and a faint panic crept in around the edges of my “A-student, … Continue reading

Microwave Mutiny

Everything has been refreshingly peaceful on the appliance front. Once my car’s navigation system recovered from the trauma of having its maps updated, a simple process involving only two all-day road trips to the dealership, our appliances grew quiet and … Continue reading
