About Jan C. Johnson

Welcome! If you like food, reading, laughing over life's little disasters, and maybe thinking about the bigger things of life, you have come to the right place. Besides blogging, I write humorous fiction, though real life tends to leave fictional humor in the shade. But I'm not a total goofball. No, really. I've also written a most riveting memoir--not mine, which would be boring, but rather the life story of an obscure pastor in Liberia, West Africa. His hair-raising memories of the Liberian Civil War years make for some suspenseful reading! Discover more under the "My Books" tab. I live in North Texas with my husband, Brent. We enjoy bicycling, Mexican food, and traveling to visit our kids and grandkids.

How to Fix Broken Resolutions

New Year’s Day is a perfectly fine and logical occasion for taking a self-inventory and setting some goals—if you have time between shopping the sales. But it’s easy to exaggerate the importance of January 1 as The time to make … Continue reading

The Rook, by Steven James

Dear Reader, In a number of earlier posts, called “Book Reviews,” I told you about books I’d read. But, as has recently come to my attention, I’m not a book critic. I never reviewed a book I didn’t like. Why … Continue reading

Holiday Fiasco – I mean, FEAST.

What I’d like to know is, why don’t we eat normal food for Thanksgiving? Like lasagna or steak. Or at least, if we’re going to eat poultry, start with a bird that isn’t five times the size we usually cook, … Continue reading
